muntin (mun'-tin): a thin framing member that separates the panes of a window sash or glazed doors.
bumper (bum'-pur): a soft spacer designed to reduce or eliminate the effects of impact between two surfaces.
- Function:
-
Muntin bumpers are used on GBG (grid between glass, or internal muntin bar) to eliminate rattling of the
muntin against the glass during transportation and while opening and closing the sash. If placed strategically at
the intersections of the vertical and horizontal bars, they also can help to center the muntin within the I.G. and give it a
more uniform appearance.
Muntin bumpers also make excellent cabinet door bumpers.
- Application:
-
Muntin bumpers are supplied with a non-yellowing self-adhesive acrylic backing and therefore can easily be applied right to
the muntin bar before being placed between the panes of glass. It is generally considered best practice to place the bumpers
at the intersections of the vertical and horizontal bars to maximize effectiveness.
- Put-up:
-
Muntin bumpers are provided kiss-cut in pads for easy transportation. They come with a self-adhesive backing
on a white paper release liner.
- Materials:
-
LAMATEK muntin bumpers are made from a UV resistant urethane compound and are available in a wide variety of colors (black,
brown, white, grey) and in a nearly invisible clear compound.
