Threshold gaskets LAMATEK Inc. -- Threshold Gaskets
threshold (thresh'-hold): a strip of wood or metal with beveled edges used over the finish floor and the sill of exterior doors.

butyl (bute'-tul): a synthetic rubber prepared by co-polymerization of isobutylene with a small amount of isoprene. Primarily used as a sealant and architectural glazing tape.

gasket (gas'-ket): static seal made from deformable material and compressed between plane surfaces.

Function:
Threshold gaskets are a specialty gaskets engineered specifically for applications where cut wood is exposed to long-term, frequent or standing water. Although primarily associated with use as a threshold gasket, this composite also makes an excellent gasket for wood windows.

The butyl backing provides a stable, weather resistance seal and is able to creep (or completely fill) the irregular surfaces associated with cut ends of wood. Butyl is also extremely water resistant (it's cured form is the liner used for the bottom of ponds) and if applied properly can completely remove water absorption into the wood grain, a severe problem that causes premature rotting.

Application:
Our threshold gaskets come with a thick semi-cured butyl backing, providing enough mass to fill nearly any irregularities. They bond quickly and efficiently with just slight pressure. Simply peel from the silicone coated release liner and apply to the cut end of the threshold.

Put-up:
Threshold gaskets come kiss-cut on a thick silicone coated release liner. The matrix (or scrap between pieces) is removed to prevent the cut pieces from fusing back together and facilitates fast, easy removal from the liner.

Materials:
LAMATEK's threshold gaskets are made from weather resistant neoprene or vinyl nitrile sponge with a thick, water repellant butyl backing. The neoprene or vinyl nitrile foam layer can be replaced with other foams to fit various applications.
